And now for something completely different.......
Back before the Christmas period I was invited to work alongside Strength & Performance Torfaen gym to photograph some of the members as they progress through their fitness journey. Following this was the annual awards night where members were celebrated for their achievements throughout the year. I’ve been a member S&P Torfaen for a number of years and know some of the members quite well and seeing the transformation of those members was amazing.
Being a landscape photographer meant I had to step out of my comfort zone to give some fitness and physique photography a go. Some times it’s good to get out and try a different genre to keep those creative juices flowing. I had to think on my feet about posing and what props to use, something I’m not used to doing! It was a completely different experience to photographing a landscape as I had only 30 minutes with each member where as with a landscape I have all the time in the world.
In an attempt to keep myself as mobile and wireless as possible I decided to us a single Godox AD200 strobe and an Interfit 90x90 soft box. This was triggered by a Godox X-pro mounted on the hot shoe of my Nikon D850. Lens wise I was using my Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 which proved ideal in the restricted space I had to work in. On reflection such a large soft box was maybe a little over kill and not as portable as I originally thought it would be. Still, you live and learn.
Onto the evening and it was a great chance for members to put on their party frocks let their hair down! Some worthy winners were celebrated during the night for their various achievements throughout the year. If anything, they all provided me with the motivation to get myself back to the gym and work off all that food I consumed over Christmas!
